Events that occur after the start of the new fiscal year may require adjustments to the expense and revenue budgets of a unit.  These adjustments are made through the budget maintenance process.  Although a thorough discussion of budget maintenance is outside of the scope of this document, it is important to note that the creation of the Beginning Budget during Budget Preparation is not the end of budget decision-making until the next fiscal year.  Available resource levels may change during the year.  This may occur in the form of either an allocation change, a change in the amount of anticipated revenue, or the recognition of an actual Beginning Balance that materially varies from the estimated amount.
